Every Grandparent Needs This Perfect Rocking Chair

There are certain inventions that really make a difference in our lives. In fact, they often say that ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ and it seems that when we really need something, it is there for us. Then again, there are going to be times when something comes along and it is so perfect we wonder why nobody ever invented it before. That is the case with this rocking chair and it just may be the perfect gift for every grandparent, regardless of how many grandchildren they have.

This unusual rocking chair is the brainchild of Hal Taylor, a woodworker who has over 24 years of crafting experience. If there’s one thing that he loved, it was sitting with his children and reading books but once the third child was born, his lap was quickly running out of room. How was he going to tell them all a story? That is when he came up with the design for this unique StoryTime Rocking Chair

This picture is of the Taylor family enjoying the first chair that was ever constructed. As you can see, it is perfect for multiple children.

When you first see this type of invention, you may think that it is rather amusing but when you read about the chair, you begin to understand how amazing it is. It is a well-built frame and it is designed perfectly for a multi-child reading experience.

Although these chairs are unique, they are also expensive. You can expect to spend anywhere from $8000 up to $9500 for every chair, depending upon the wood that is used.

The reason why they are pricey is because they are handmade for your family. Taylor even wants to know specifics about you, including your height and inseam measurements and you will need to send a photo. He wants to make the chair so that it is perfectly comfortable for you as an individual.

“I made a chair for a fellow in California who was built like a tank, wide abeam and muscular,” Taylor writes on his website. “Thus, when I made his chair I made all of the parts a little heavier than I would normally and when he sent a photo of himself in his new chair they were a ‘perfect match.’”

This is also a very complex rocking chair. There are more than 260 different pieces that go into each model.

“Every piece of wood in the chair is carefully matched!” Taylor writes on his website. “The seat is bilaterally symmetrical as you can see from this photo. The joint is perfect because it is hand planed, which takes time.”

It is an investment that needs to be considered but Taylor has something to say about it on his website. He says that it is more than an investment, it is something that will become a family heirloom.

“Is it a lot of money?” he writes. “YES but ask yourself this question. ‘Of all of the things I have spent money on in the last 20 years, how many of them will ever be used by my great grandchildren??’ This chair will!”

We tend to agree!

In addition, there is the quality time that you will be spending with your grandchildren. It doesn’t matter if you are reading to them in this custom rocking chair or taking them to the park for a nice day, it is something that is enjoyable for everyone involved. It’s also very good for your health!

That is more than just a random statement, it’s true. Researchers found that grandparents who babysit their grandkids once a week have better cognitive abilities that those who aren’t regular caretakers.

Not only is it a possibility for improved cognitive function, it may reduce the possibility of dementia and Alzheimer’s. It is important to recognize, however, that too much babysitting is not necessarily a good thing. When grandparents take care of the children five days or more per week, they have lower scores on the same test.

When you stop to think about it, it makes sense. Spending time with your grandchildren can be stimulating but it can also tax the body, both mentally and physically.
