Treat Your Nagging Cough Like Grandma Did – With This Bourbon Cough Syrup

We are coming into a time of year when many of us know we are going to end up flat on our back, sick in bed. Some people refer to it as the cold and flu season but regardless of what you call it, the stuffy nose, watery eyes and nagging cough are only weeks or perhaps months away. We do our best to try to stay healthy but unfortunately, the bug is eventually going to bite but when it does, we don’t necessarily need to take it lying down. In fact, there are some ways to fight it that you may not have considered before.

When you walk down the aisles of the drugstore, you will find many different medications that promise to help. Some of them do a fair job of treating the symptoms but the last thing you would want to do when you are really sick is to chug some type of medicine that will make you sicker. In addition, you might have some side effects from those medications that are not to your liking as well. One of those is drowsiness but rather than feeling drowsy because you have cough syrup with alcohol, you might as well just drink the alcohol.

If you are suffering from a cough, you might want to skip some of the cough drops you have been taking. That is especially true at night, because you don’t want to choke on it when you fall asleep without finishing it.

It’s time to get grown up about your problem and this solution is brilliant. In some ways, it may even make you look forward to the coming season because it will give you an excuse to drink.

This DIY nightcap is perfect for a scratchy throat and you won’t mind drinking it at all.

The primary ingredient is honey and if you don’t want any alcohol, you could mix honey, hot water or perhaps some warm milk and sip on it to ease the discomfort in your throat. If you do enjoy alcohol, however, we have something you will love.

We are mixing bourbon with the honey! I’m serious. The honey and lemon combination of this cocktail is going to soothe the throat but the bourbon adds something that makes it a legitimate cough syrup.

To make the Bourbon Cough Syrup (for adults only), you’ll need:

2 oz Bourbon
2 oz lemon juice (about half a lemon)
2-4 oz water (optional
)1 tbsp honey

Combine the first 3 ingredients in your glass of choice and heat in the microwave for 45 seconds. Add the honey, whisk well, and return to the microwave for another 45 seconds.
