Do You Want To Stay Safe On Vacation? Secure Your Room With This Brilliant Door LifeHack

Many of us love to go on vacation but we don’t necessarily always feel as if we are the safest when we do so. We often hear stories about people who have experienced bad things on vacation and it really only takes a moment for the best time of your life to turn into nothing short of a nightmare. In fact, there are so many dangers that are associated with traveling that you really need to be cautious to ensure that you are being as safe as possible. That is why this information is so valuable.
When you are staying at a hotel, one of the most vulnerable parts of the entire stay is going to be the front door. Even if you have multiple locks that are on the door, you should still be very cautious about the fact that somebody could get it very easily if they really wanted to. There is an old saying that “locks are for honest people” and you really need to keep that in mind when you are staying at a hotel. There are so many different ways to circumvent the security of a common hotel room door that it really is not even worth locking it in some cases. That is about to change.

Did you realize that you could look a hotel room door securely and it really only takes a fork to do it? As long as you prepare in advance and take it along with you, you can feel absolutely secure in your hotel. Not only that, this works in your home or with any door, provided you set things up properly. Fortunately, it is an easy process and we have a video below that shows exactly how to do it.

First of all, you are going to need a fork. It is important that you don’t use your fine silverware for this process and that is going to become quickly obvious. The fork is actually going to be destroyed but it is going to make a permanent lock for your door that can be used over and over again and even taken with you on vacation.

You start by marking the fork at the tines after putting it into the area where the bolt goes into the doorjamb. You’re not going to be able to measure the door at the hotel but if you measure one at home, it should allow you to get close enough to get started.

Now that you have the fork marked, you can put it in a vice and bend the tines to a 90 degree angle at the mark. Remember that we told you you should not use your fine silverware for this purpose? This is why! At this point, the fork is ruined unless you plan on eating with it in a rather unusual way.

A hack saw is going to be needed to cut the handle off of the fork. It should only take a moment to do so but it is important to get it fairly close to the end of the fork. You want to make sure that you have a clean-cut and then you certainly will not want to lose either of these pieces because they are both necessary for making the impromptu lock.

It is important to recognize that there may be some sharp edges on the fork and the handle, especially where they were cut. It is also easier to poke yourself with the tines of the fork now that they have been bent at a 90 degree angle. You can file down the sharp edges so that they are no longer a problem. Some people also like to file the edges the handle so that it is slightly thinner but it is not necessary to do so.

At this point, you have everything that is necessary to lock any door securely. The process of locking the door is relatively simple as well and we’re going to discuss it but it is best if you watch the video so that you can go through everything, step-by-step.

The tines of the prongs go into the doorjamb at the hole and then the handle slips into the fork securely. That is all that there is to it. It doesn’t seem like it would be enough to hold the door but this is such a secure lock that nobody would be able to break in without breaking the door. In fact, it is secure enough that you should be able to sleep easy when you are on the inside.
