Do you have a junk drawer at your house? I have to admit that we have several. It seems that every room in our home has a junk drawer or junk box. A lot of that has to do with the fact that we work from home, but also, my wife is a “handy” person. She’s gotten really good over the years at fixing stuff that needs fixing, and I’m not bad myself. If there’s any screw that’s needed, I guarantee you she can find one in the perfect size. It’s almost uncanny the way she can disappear into her “craft room” and come out with the perfect thing she needs.
Most people have a junk drawer in their kitchen that contains everything from rubber bands to matches to post-it pads with one piece of paper left. In fact, when my stepson moved into his first apartment, my wife meticulously compiled for him a toolbox with everything he could ever need, including tools of all types, but also zip ties, rubber bands, hanging brackets, a flashlight, and even a stud finder (that he still doesn’t know how to use). Well, someone on Etsy had a brilliant idea and they came up with the vision of selling a “Junk Drawer Starter Kit.” We think it’s a brilliant idea.
The kit comes with a small flashlight, a screwdriver, a roll of tape, some batteries, matches, rubber bands, a pen, a pair of scissors, and a whole lot of humor. This is a great gift for anyone who is moving, but it’s also not a bad gift for the kid who’s getting ready to go away to college or getting their first home. Everyone needs a junk drawer, right?
You can make your own, of course, and that’s a great idea. You can even customize it as you see fit. However, you can head to Etsy and buy this one, too.
